Skulking on the Deep/Dark Web: A Primer on Tor for the Information Security Professional

Tor is seen by most in the US and information security as a den of the Internet’s most unsavory deeds from carding to hitmen and items no self-respecting person would mention. While this is in some way true, the Deep and Dark Web can also be an invaluable source of information and counter-intelligence.

In an effort to dispel some of the myth we will take a deeper look at The Onion Router (Tor) Network and the larger Deep/Dark Web.

Topics for discussion will include:

  • Connecting to Tor
  • Ways to protect your privacy and some operating systems that can help
  • Why you (or someone you trust) should be on Tor
  • What to do with the information you find

By the end of our discussion you should to equipped with a few tools and resources to begin your journey into the dark.
